Greetings, everyone – Welcome to Term 2 at Viscount.
New Board of Trustees. I am very pleased to be able to let you all know that we have a new B.O.T. declared to oversee our great school for the next 3 years. The returning officer received 5 nominations for parent representatives,
and the following people have duely been declared as our new B.O.T.:-
- Mrs. Ioana Mulipola (returning to B.O.T.)
- Mrs. Anna Hunkin (returning to B.O.T.)
- Mr. Evan Lockington (new member))
- Mrs. Moana Antonio (new member)
- Mr. Fuifui Tavui (new member)
Together with Mr. Leigh Stevens (new staff representative) these people will form our B.O.T. for the next 3 years!
I feel it is important to acknowledge the contributions of members of our B.O.T. who have stood down this year. Thanks to Ms. Amy Charles who has been our very enthusiastic staff representative since 2004. Thanks to Mrs. Josephine Samuelu who has been on our board for the last 3 years. Thanks to Mr. Sakeasi Taumalolo who has been on our board for the last 6 years, giving us valuable insights and feedback on the aspirations and issues for our Tongan families! MANY THANKS to Mrs. Lee-Ann Anaru our out-going Chairperson – Lee-Ann served on our board since 2002, helping to guide Viscount Learning Community through many years of significant change. Lee-Ann has always been a staunch supporter of the innovations we have introduced in learning at Viscount, and has always given us valuable guidance from a Maori view point on various issues.
‘Reading Together’ Programme – Well done to all those parents who took part in the four workshops we ran at school over the last couple of months. We enjoyed working with you all to help you to be able to support your child’s reading at home! Now we are planning to run workshops again, to give the parents of all our New Entrants this year the chance to get more involved with their children’s reading. We hope that lots of you will make time to come along to these sessions!
THREE-WAY-CONFERENCES – Next dates for these opportunities to catch up with your child’s learning – Monday 8th July and Tuesday 9th July – at these conferences you will also receive your child’s half-year report! Remember – if you can’t make it on either of these dates, you can make an appointment to come along on some other day that week – it is VERY important that you do come along!
Year 5/6 trip to Motuihe Island – All our Y.5/6 students recently had a great experience going out to Motuihe Island in the Auckland harbour, and planting trees to play their parts in ensuring that the trees and wildlife we value so much in N.Z. are conserved for the future. Many thanks to Ms. Charles who organized this activity for all the 8 classes in Y.5/6 (for the second time in the last 3 years) – these students can now proudly say that they have played their part in preserving N.Z. for the future!
Viscount Unlimited – At last I can report to you all that the funding for our new Learning Environment has been approved by the Ministry of Education. Now we can all look forward to watching the front of our school (where rooms 1, 2 and 3 are) transform over the rest of 2013, into something we can all be proud of!

SPORTS NEWS Congratulations to our Y.7/8 boys and girls sevens rugby teams that recently competed very well at the ‘BLUES TOURNAMENT’. The boys went down narrowly to Kedgley in the final, whilst the girls went through the day unbeaten, winning the final against Koru, convincingly! NOW we look forward to girls playing in the ‘Finals Tournament’ on Saturday at Eden Park before the Blues play the Brumbies!! Go girls and Ms Su’a!
A great day at the Y.7/8 girls soccer day on Tuesday was had by our team and Mr. Stevens. The girls won 2 and lost 2 games on the day – well done girls, especially those girls who were competing for their first time!
