Our Learning Community
A learning community is an organised human community which builds and becomes engaged in its own educational projects – to educate itself. All efforts and tasks are carried out within a framework of co-operative effort and vision based on an analysis not only of its deficits but also of its strengths.
The goals, aspirations, visions and expectation of our learning community are constantly changing to continually realign the learning with the needs of the learner in this “Knowledge Age”. Factors considered in this realignment are many – notably the trend towards globalisation, the rapid process of decentralisation and the ever changing needs of the learner in this constantly changing world.
As knowledge, knowledge creation and knowledge sharing become the key assets in a knowledge based economy, as advances in information and communications technology enable efficient storage of information and rapid access to abundant information and as advances in technology are continually changing the nature of human work, lifelong learning becomes the key to individual and collective economic prosperity.
Our emerging learning culture then contains a number of elements
The over-riding goal of our learning community then is to enable our students to be learners. These learners place value on knowledge, on thinking and on the development of intellectual integrity. The approach that underpins all learning is one of inquiry.
