Our Approach to Learning
Numeracy and literacy shall be taught explicitly and shall be treated quite apart from Inquiry, although through-lines may develop.
All classes shall run the Reading Hour and shall teach Mathematics explicitly. Sport, P.E. Health, Technology, the Arts and Languages shall be partly included in Inquiry but shall also be taught explicitly.
Language will continue to have a separate time on the timetable but will be integrated into Inquiry Learning. However, some explicit teaching will be necessary
for success.
For example, a teacher may explicitly teach letter writing skills enabling students to write to experts seeking information for their Inquiry.
(Just in Time Learning)
Thus language will move in and out of the Inquiry Process. This includes all the skills of literacy including the Information Literacy Skills.
The Learning Community, Learning to Learn, Thinking and Questions & Questioning are a part of learning but will also be taught explicitly at some stage every year.
Thus, learning at Viscount Learning Community has an emphasis on learning skills and processes, rather than contextual content.
